you are considering becoming a member. As a unit of the oldest, most effective civil rights organization in America, our mission is a simple one:
equality and justice for all citizens. We are so pleased that you share our vision.
I have enclosed some information to assist you in getting the most out of your NAACP membership. I want to point out that as an
at-large member of the Association you will be receiving 6 issues of The CRISIS magazine, the official bi-monthly publication of the NAACP,
with your first issue arriving 8 - 12 weeks after you join.
In addition to receiving The CRISIS, members of local adult, college and
youth units vote on and create NAACP policy. Affiliated members develop close personal and professional relationships while volunteering
on any number of committees, all while become an integral part of the moral fabric of their community.
The NAACP is a powerful organization with proven leadership in the area of civil rights. The NAACP is poised to remain the largest
and oldest civil rights organization in America. We’re glad that you have chosen to support our efforts through membership. If you have any

fight for freedom for almost 60 years.
Steadfast in our approach to improving the quality of life for people

ADVOCACY
The NAACP Washington Bureau plans, coordinates and communicates
the NAACP political action and legislative agendas. Simultaneously,
the Legal Affairs Department furthers the cause of civil rights
through litigation by focusing on class actions and other cases of
broad significance and impact.
GRASSROOTS NETWORK & INITIATIVES
Much of the NAACP’s strength lies in its grassroots membership and
its many landmark victories in the courts, Congress and state legislatures.
Through timely and relevant programmatic initiatives, the Association
remains visible and vocal in almost every community. As a result,
nearly 100 years later, the NAACP family continues to grow at a
record pace.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Ensuring that people of color benefit from America’s growing wealth,
the NAACP advocates for equal access to credit, capital and basic financial
services, while expanding consumer knowledge. Through the
Economic Reciprocity Initiative, consumers are empowered to make
informed choices about where to spend and invest their dollars.
EDUCATION
Every student has the right to quality education. Preventing discrimination
in educational programs and services, advancing educational
excellence, and promoting an equal opportunity education agenda remain
a strategic focus for the NAACP. Celebrating excellence in education
through the Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific
Olympics (ACT-SO), the NAACP rewards academic, artistic and
cultural achievement among African American and other minority high
school students.
OUTREACH
The NAACP Prison Project promotes alliances, legislation and initiatives
that positively impact inmate recidivism, ex-felon reenfranchisement
and racial disparities within the criminal justice system.
Working closely with members of the faith-based community to
affect change on a grassroots level, NAACP Religious Affairs initiatives
raise awareness of the civil rights struggle and present the
moral, ethical and church’s relationship to the struggle across denominations.
MEDIA & PUBLIC RELATIONS
Founded by W.E.B. DuBois in 1910, The CRISIS magazine provides
NAACP members with information on a variety of critical issues confronting
people of color. The Image Awards honor individuals of all
races who promote positive images of people of color in the television,
motion pictures, music and literary fields.
